Andrey Rublev gives honest opinion on Nick Kyrgios: 'He is normal guy'

Speaking with Eurosport, Andrey Rublev was asked to comment on the US Open crowd booing Daniil Medvedev during the first week of the tournament. Rublev said: "It's difficult to say something. First of all, I do not like to judge people because you do not know what you would do yourself. You can judge the way you like as long as you are not in his place. It's clear he was driven from emotions. Another player could have thrown a racket or not do anything. You need to control emotions but it's not that easy. Then everything got solved and in the final, he was supported. Thank to it, he got stronger and learned something important."

Rublev defeated Nick Kyrgios in a straight-set third round US Open match earlier this month. During that tournament, the Australian said the ATP is corrupt. Rublev did not criticize Kyrgios. "I would say he is a normal guy. He just does things other guys do not do, in a good way. In the locker room, he speaks with ordinary officials and he says hi to them. Many players who seem to be educated do not do it. In the match against me he played very seriously, he did not do something controversial unlike he did in other matches. Even in a match in Moscow, he made a bigger show than at the US Open. The match was more serious and so he was."

Asked why he plays doubles as well, Rublev replied: "Playing doubles can help if it is your first match when you did not have too much time to prepare. So it helps to fit to the court.  Because the training cannot even be compared to the competition, even if it's just doubles."
