John McEnroe: There is no issue with Murray's desire to get back on top

Tennis legend John McEnroe recently said that he sees former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray back in the Top-10, if he is to get back to peak fitness.

Murray will step-up his comeback bid on the Asian swing after getting some match practice, playing a Challenger-level event in Mallorca.

The Scot, who recently revealed that he wants to be ready for the Australian Open next year, the very tournament where he broke down to tears and revealed that he might have to retire soon. Taking a wildcard in the Rolex Shanghai Masters, Murray is set to spearhead Great Britain at the ATP Cup next year where he is drawn in the same group as Roger Federer.

Such ambitions are nothing but positive for the Scot, who seems to be showing a lot of faith and belief in his rehab. McEnroe feels there is every reason for Murray to be aiming high.

“There is no issue with his desire and determination to get back to the top,” McEnroe told reporters at the Laver Cup. “The issue is whether he can ever be healthy again,’ said McEnroe. “That’s the part that I think nobody knows – including Andy. But if he got back to the point where he is actually healthy, then I would believe absolutely he would be back in the top 10 of the world.”

Murray has also been working on his diet and healthy eating to get fitter. “I have a nutritionist and he gives me meal plans to make sure I am optimising my nutrition to help my performance, training and recovery."
