2019 Hopman Cup - Schedule: When does Roger Federer play?

Roger Federer will be one of the first players to start the 2019 season. For the third year in a row, the Swiss will feature at the Hopman Cup in Perth where he will team up with Belinda Bencic. They will start their campaign on Sunday December 30 at 5:30 PM local time against Great Britain's Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter. On Tuesday, January 1 Federer and Bencic will face Frances Tiafoe and Serena Williams, always at 5:30 PM. At the same hour, but on Thursday, January 3, Switzerland will play against the Greek team made up of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari. One men's singles rubber and one women's singles plus mixed doubles will be played in each tie, which means Federer will face Norrie, Tiafoe and Tsitsipas. The American suffered a five-set loss in the 2017 US Open first round against Federer after a close match.

Alexander Zverev will pair up with Angelique Kerber again, this year. In a recent interview, the world no. 4 spoke about how tennis has evolved over the years: 'The game has changed so much. The game is much more physical obviously. We have so many great players that are a little bit older now, that it's not easy to come through for the young generation. We really have to be better than the other guys to come through and to be ranked higher. Obviously we have a very good group of guys coming through, 21, 22, 23-year-olds, even younger. I think the Shapovalov and De Minaur group is also very good. We'll see what the future holds for all of us.'
