7 Foods To Avoid Before Training
Most athletes know that before a long training or running session, you need to have good stocks of glycogen. So, what are the right snacks to consume before training? Here are seven to avoid:
1. LEGUMES Legumes, like lentils or beans, are an important source of fiber, but must be avoided before training because they can cause gastrointestinal issues or even diarrhea.
2. WHITE SUGAR Sugary and caloric foods can ruin performance because they lower blood sugar levels rapidly (hypoglycemia). This causes fatigue, loss of energy and headaches. Before a run, rather eat quinoa or oats.

3. FATTY FOODS Although fat is a macronutrient that must be part of your diet, it weighs down the stomach and does not easily digest. This is why you should avoid fatty foods before a workout, especially foods containing saturated fats like cheese, bacon or burgers.
4. PROTEIN BARS Protein bars are advertised as great for athletes, but the truth is they often contain lots of refined sugars, so they must be used with care. Instead of buying them at the supermarket, rather make your own at home, so that you have control over what goes into them.
5. LACTOSE Not everyone can digest a milk or yogurt well before training. If you have any issues with lactose, avoid these foods.

6. SPICY FOODS Although spices are great for boosting your metabolism, they can also cause excessive stomach acid and gastrointestinal disorders.
7. ENERGY DRINKS Like protein and energy bars, energy drinks often contain lots of sugar. It is better to drink water or isotonic drinks. If you are able, produce your own isotonic drinks at home instead of buying them.
