2012 champion Bernard Tomic speaks highly of Kooyong Classic
Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic is looking forward to playing the Kooyong Classic.
The 26-year-old has a high opinion of the Kooyong event as the popular exhibition will serve him as the last preparation for the Australian Open.
The Australian is due to make his fifth appearance on the hard courts of Kooyong.
"(I'm) really happy to be a part of the Kooyong event once again. It's one of my favorite exhos, especially before the Australian Open. I always enjoy down there (in Kooyong playing) with some of the best players in the world. So, for me to be a part once again is amazing and I can't wait to be down there," Tomic said.
Tomic, ranked at No. 83 in the world, debuted at Kooyong in 2010.
The former world No. 17 captured his maiden Kooyong title in 2012 -- when he beat American former world No. 7 Mardy Fish in the final.
The Australian didn't play Kooyong for four consecutive years -- but he returned to the event in 2017.
Tomic is set to make his third consecutive Kooyong appearance, having featured the 2018 tournament edition as well.
The Kooyong event is due to feature a star-studded field as Tomic is expected to be joined by three top-10 players -- Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro, Croatian Marin Cilic and South-African Kevin Anderson.
The Kooyong Classic is due to be held from 08-10 January.
