Roger Federer recalls fun time with wife Mirka, children in 2016

In an interview to The Wall Street Journal, Roger Federer recalled the six-month break he has enjoyed in 2016 with his wife Mirka and kids. Federer enjoyed plenty of time off-court with them, which does not happen often as he is regularly on Tour. 'I started making a list. What could I do? Where can I go for hikes? Where can we do rehab? Where does (Federer’s wife) Mirka want to go? Where do you want to take the kids?', said Federer.

Commenting on his success, he indicated that playing more aggressive on the backhand side was the key: 'It was more of a setup shot, the backhand. Today I think I attack the ball more. I go meet the ball earlier.'

Federer added: 'I’ve gone one step further by just really hugging the baseline, saying, I’m not moving back. Because of that, now the rallies are played in a very aggressive way.'

Federer finally spoke about how switching to a 97 inches racket in 2014 helped him: 'The new racket has helped me a lot on the backhand drive and on the serve, just getting more consistency, easier power. I enjoy my tennis more because I can dictate play more, I can come to the net, I’m in charge, I can be creative.'

Federer will start the 2019 season at the Hopman Cup in Perth alongside Belinda Bencic.
