Alexander Zverev commits to play ATP 250 event in...

The BMW Open of Munich has announced its first player confirmed for the 2019 edition that will take place in late April. The world No. 4 Alexander Zverev announced he will be back to play in front of his fans trying to capture his third title in a row there. Earlier this year Zverev defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in a straight-set championship clash. That was a very good clay-court season for the 21-year-old, who also reached Monte Carlo semifinals, won the Madrid Open, reached Rome finals and French Open quarters. However, he hurt his groin because of the many matches played and in Halle and Wimbledon he respectively reached the first and fourth round. “It’s always great to play in front of my home crowd and I hope that I can successfully defend my title", said Zverev on Munich.

The tournament's organizer Michael Mronz said: “Special thanks to our partners BMW and FWU. Only with the support of our sponsors, we are able to present another fantastic line-up to our spectators. It is wonderful to see the ATP Champion coming back to Munich next year.”

Zverev is playing the Hopman Cup to start his 2019 season prior to the Australian Open.
