Australia's Matt Ebden targets big wins and Hopman Cup title

Rising Australian Matt Ebden is eager to perform well against the top guys at the Hopman Cup.

World No. 46 Ebden has set high goals for this year's Hopman Cup as he hopes to win it all alongside fellow compatriot Ashleigh Barty.

However, they won't have an easy job of even making it past the group stage as they share Group A with France, Germany and Spain.

France will be represented by Lucas Pouille and Alize Cornet, Germany's team features a superstar duo consisting of Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber, while David Ferrer and Garbine Muguruza are set to represent Spain.

Should Australia reach the final, Ebden could face either Switzerland's Roger Federer, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, USA's Frances Tiafoe or Great Britain's Cameron Norrie.

"This is as good at it gets on the planet," Ebden said, per The West Australian.

"It is a tough group, but I've been playing well this year, beaten guys in the top 10.

"If I want to be one of those players myself these are the matches I've got to step up with and step over the line and start to win more often than not.

"With the mixed doubles element to it too, there’s no reason we can’t have as good a shot as anyone but at the same time we have to bring our A-game.

"It (winning) would be up there with winning a grand slam and Davis Cup and representing our country in all the big things in tennis. It can sometimes be thought of as a lead-in event but everyone here I know is as competitive as can be."
