Brisbane International General Manager: We are expecting fully fit field
Brisbane International General Manager Mark Handley has confirmed that all the players signed up for the tournament are planning to open their 2019 season in Brisbane.
The Brisbane event appears to be set for another big week of tennis as once again some of the best players of the game will be preparing in Brisbane ahead of the Australian Open.
The highlight of the 2019 Brisbane edition should be the return of world No. 2 Rafael Nadal and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray to the tournament.
Both Nadal and Murray were forced to withdraw from the Brisbane International in 2018.
Nadal debuted in Brisbane in 2017, while Murray has never lost a match in Brisbane as he hasn't played at the tournament since winning back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.
Defending Brisbane champion Nick Kyrgios, 2017 champion Grigor Dimitrov, 2016 champion Milos Raonic, 2017 runner-up Kei Nishikori and former world No. 5 Jo Wilfried Tsonga are expected to join Nadal and Murray in Brisbane.
Rising stars Kyle Edmund, Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz are also due to open their 2019 campaign in Brisbane.
"Now they are all good...Rafa is on the court, Murray is on the court -- they are all looking good. In fact, we haven't heard a niggle from anybody at all. So, we are expecting a fully fit field," Handley told the Nine News Queensland.
