Daria Gavrilova Hopes to Climb Up The Rankings in 2019
Tennis - Australian Daria Gavrilova has been working hard on her fitness in recent weeks during her off-season training block with coach Jarryd Maher and fitness coach Jeremy Oliver. One of the new things she has tried for the off-season training is bike cycling along Melbourne's Yarra River Trail and Beach Rd circuits.
In an interview to The Australian, Gavrilova, who recently got engaged to countryman Lukas Saville, says, "It has been really good. I have been training hard and I have added a few different things in my training block. I have been doing a lot of cycling, which has been fun. And I have been getting better. I did have a few stares from drivers like, ‘What is she doing?’, but I am getting better. It is just something different.”
Gavrilova and Saville also spent Christmas together in Riverland with Saville's family, something she says she enjoyed. “(They do a big Christmas lunch) unfortunately, because it is not good for my tennis. But they do a great Christmas and I really enjoy being in the family environment. There are so many kids in the family … so many cousins.”
The 35th ranked Australian says she wants to rise up in the rankings in 2019 and hopes to be more consistent at the big events. “I just want to challenge the top players and try to actually steal their rankings and find my way up in the rankings and get more consistent with my results in slams.”
