Eugenie Bouchard enjoys popularity while court duties remain challenging
Many years ago, Eugenie Bouchard, the top Canadian lady player was ranked in the top 5 and had a popping tennis game that propelled her even into the final of Wimbledon four years ago. But things have changed with her accident at the U.S. Open five years ago, a slow recovery and lawsuit resolved, her tennis abilities took a very bad hit and her rankings are now in the 80s.
This tennis slump would be a depressing situation for many players, but Bouchard is active on the social media and from her maintained popularity sport and entertainment venues. Outside of the tennis circular, she likes basketball as well as football where a year ago had a bet with her Twitter fan, John Goehrke, that if the Patriots won over the Atlanta Falcons, she'd go on a date with him. They had a few dates that later their relationship fizzled. Besides that, she's had a Sports Illustrated and WTA photoshoots.
While her social life is going through the roof of popularity on her Twitter and Instagram, her tennis was becoming more stagnant and lacklustre. Last year she started with the Brisbane International and made the semifinals, around she hasn't reached since 2016. Afterwards, there were losses in the openers of four tournaments, the Mexican Open, Indian Wells, Miami and Monterrey. The level of the WTA tours hadn't proved beneficial and to get her game more sharpened, Bouchard thought it best to try working her way back into the ITF Pro Circuit. There she hadn't did well either, but there was the defeat of Maria Sharapova at the Madrid Open's second round. The French Open and Wimbledon she went to the second and first rounds. The tournament in Luxembourg she decided to spread her talents and partner with Kirsten Flipkens in doubles where they went deep and made it to the final, but unfortunately was defeated. She also seems to be having luck when she teamed with Sloane Stephens at CitiOpen and went into the finals too.
The beginning of this season, Bouchard changed coaches from Thomas Hogstedt to Harold Solomon and entered the Hopman Cup. She didn't gather much luck as she lost her singles matches and plus picking up a buttock injury in the process. "I think it's maybe a little strained or a little pulled or something...there was a really sharp pain. I'm going to the physio now to see what it is. I don't think it's too bad", Bouchard explained worriedly. The season began to take a downward spiral for her as she lost at Hobart and her rankings fell out of the top 100 since five years ago. The brighter side was the Fed Cup where Bouchard entered having performed since three years ago and happily won two singles rubbers to help Canada remain in the World Group II in 2109.
Bouchard managed to keep her social life afloat and appeared in the 2018 issue of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition shot in Aruba which proved quite revealing and appealing to fans and the tennis community. She enjoyed the shoot saying "This is exhausting. wow. It's harder than playing tennis". Through the year she decided to dissolve her relationship permanently with her Twitter fan, John Goehrke and has did a WTA photo shoot promoting tennis. When it came to tennis the Canadian young woman found her luck more in doubles and partnered again with Sloane Stephens to play at Indian Wells where they went to the third round to be taken down by the Belarusian team of Victoria Azarenka and Aryna Sabalenka. But it was a terrible deal and Bouchard and Stephens agreed to get together again for the Miami Open where they made it to the quarterfinals. The other tournaments even her hometown at the Canadian Open she went to the third round in singles and quarters in doubles with Stephens. At a Canadian ITF she decided to push her luck further and get in doubles but this time with Japan's Nao Hibino. They'd go into the quarterfinals and her last hooray of the season she went to Luxembourg and was satisfied that in singles she made it through to the semifinals but lost to Julia Goerges.
Eugenie Bouchard is one who never minds mixing pleasure with business and had an interesting and entertaining time on the island of the British Virgin Islands with Richard Branson where he hosted the Necker Tennis Pro-Am event with Caroline Wozniacki, Daniel Nestor, Nicole Gibbs, Maria Sharapova to name a few. Bouchard not only played tennis there but tried on a mermaid's tale and was unsuccessful at swimming with it. She also enjoyed the beautiful weather in her various bikini sets and had a swimming good time with celebrities and tennis players involved with and watching the exciting tennis.
Most players at present are relaxing before the tour starts in Australia with warm-up tournaments in Hobart and Sydney as well as afterwards the first grand slam of the year at Melbourne, the Australian Open. Eugenie Bouchard will be dissecting and analyzing the negatives and positives of her game and to get her strategies together as well as her body in shape for a busy and exciting tennis season.
