Hopman Cup: Roger Federer storms over Cameron Norrie in 57 minutes

World no. 3 and the defending Hopman Cup champion Roger Federer has made the best possible start of his fifth Perth campaign, defeating Cameron Norrie 6-1 6-1 in just under an hour to deliver the first point for Switzerland over Great Britain before the women's singles match between Belinda Bencic and Katie Boulter. Roger had to save three break points in the opening game of the match but once he did that he never looked back, dominating over the rival to leave him far behind, playing well on both the first and second serve and keeping the pressure on Cameron who couldn't deal with it.

The Briton struggled to make an impact with his serve or to take control in the rallies, getting broken five times from 11 chances he offered to Federer and finishing the match with just two game son his tally after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening match yesterday. Norrie wasted those three break points at the start of the match and he squandered game points as well in the following game to suffer an early break after a backhand winner from Federer. The Swiss secured another break in game four with a forehand drive volley winner and he earned two set points on the return at 5-0.

Norrie did well to fends them off and avoid a  bagel and he even had the opportunity to prolong the set after creating two break points in game seven. Roger stayed focused, winning four points in a row to grab the set 6-1 in no time at all, hoping for more of the same in the rest of the match. Norrie faded from the court and he got broken three times in set number two, allowing Federer to seal the deal with the third break of serve following a deep return in game seven.
