Hyeon Chung: 'Facing Roger Federer in Melbourne was an amazing feeling'
Hyeon Chung is ready to start preparing for the 2019 season. The South Korean player will have a busy schedule as he competes at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, then the Pune Open, ASB Classic in Auckland and the Australian Open. In a recent press conference Chung recalled his 2018 Australian Open run where he retired due to a foot injury in the semifinals while being down two sets to love to Roger Federer. 'It was an amazing feeling to be facing Roger Federer, even though I had to retire from the match. I also remember the time I defeated Djokovic', said Chung.
The 22-year-old also commented on his fellow younger players's success, including Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev. 'I draw extra motivation from watching players that I've known since junior days. But I don't want to get too ahead of myself', he warned.
This year Chung did not compete for several months due to injuries, which had happened in the previous seasons as well. That's why he now aims to stay fit in 2019. 'I'll try to play next season without any injury..I'll also look to be more aggressive on the court and finish in a higher place than this year', said Chung.
Chung is facing the South African Kevin Anderson on Thursday in Abu Dhabi.
