Juan Martin del Potro hits first practice since suffering kneecap injury
Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro hit the practice court on Friday for the first time since suffering a season-ending injury at the Shanghai Masters in October.
The 30-year-old fractured his right kneecap in a heavy fall during his Shanghai round-of-16 match against eventual runner-up Borna Coric.
The Argentine retired the match after losing the opening set.
It was a devastating blow to del Potro's 2018 campaign as he was enjoying a great season before the injury happened.
The 2018 US Open runner-up hoped he would recover in time for the Nitto ATP Finals event -- but unfortunately he didn't.

Per Christopher Clarey del Potro said in the clip: "Two months after the knee fracture, I'm back on a tennis court. I'm going slowly of course..."
Del Potro, who has a long history of health issues, admitted to being in bad spirits after suffering yet another injury two months ago.
The 30-year-old reached six ATP Finals this past season.
Del Potro made it all the way in Acapulco and the Indian Wells Masters, while he ended runner-up in Auckland, Los Cabos, Beijing and the US Open.
The Argentine was also a semi-finalist at the French Open and Miami Masters.
Del Potro is scheduled to make his comeback at the Kooyong Classic -- which is scheduled to be held a week before the Australian Open -- from 08-10 January.
