No one will win 11 times in Paris like Rafael Nadal, says Ion Tiriac
The Mutua Madrid Open owner Ion Tiriac praised Rafael Nadal's 11 French Open titles. Speaking to Le Parisien, Tiriac said: 'At the French Open, no one can be compared to Nadal. Nadal is Nadal. Me, my sons and nephews will not see nobody else winning Eleven times in Paris. But the best match I saw her is the Federer-Djokovic semifinal (the Swiss won 7-6, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in 2011). It was amazing. After that the rivalry Nadal/Federer. I also remember a Becker/Wilander in 1985 (the Swede won 6-3 6-2 6-1 in the second round).'
Tiriac criticized the French Open for not having a roof on the Philippe Chatrier Stadium at least until 2020 included: 'They should have moved it to Versailles, providing somehow a roof. This roof affair is ridiculous. You have 200 countries that broadcast the tournament and the French Open is the only place where you do not play when it rains? But what's this sport? What image gives to Paris? I do not understand that we waited so much.'
'We took Lucas Pouille (in December 2016) but my manager (Gerard Tsobanian) cares about him. I am happy because he can go higher. He has an arm as quick as Henri Leconte (coached by Tiriac). But in the mind, we can work. However, he has a personality on court and he is an interesting player. The only thing I do not understand is that players need to be surrounded by five, six or seven people. One is enough.'
