The Roger Federer era has ended, says Ion Tiriac

Ion Tiriac believes that the Roger Federer era has ended. The Mutua Madrid Open owner and Romanian businessman thinks that Alexander Zverev can take it all in 2019 and years to come. 'Zverev may be impressive. 80% of his success is through his personality,' said Tiriac, after the 21-year-old German's ATP Finals success.

Tiriac also shared quite an unusual opinion on Novak Djokovic's comeback: 'You cannot say anything. It's a mistery. He spent two years doing yoga and now after amazing performances over six months he became world no. 1 again.'

Commenting on Simona Halep splitting with Darren Cahill, Tiriac added: 'Simona has a coach in her mind. She plays how she wants. That's why she is the number one in the world.'

Tiriac finally criticized today's tennis: 'Now tennis is ping pong. The game goes much faster. Borg and Vilas hit 38-shot rallies, and I like more to see a Nastase/McEnroe match rather than matches featuring 240km/h serves.'

Halep is trying to get inspiration from Rafael Nadal in an attempt to stay at the top of the game: 'From Nadal I would take the desire to win every point. I appreciate his joy after every match too, like if he had to win his first match in life. Serena Williams thinks that anything is possible, which she showed by winning many Grand Slams.'
