Novak Djokovic had lost interest for tennis, says Russia's Tennis chief
Russia's tennis Federation chief Shamil Tarpischev praised Novak Djokovic's comeback to the top. As quoted by Championat, Tarpischev said: 'In the last years he was the best but at some point from mid-2016 he went down for two years. It was caused by the big amount of matches, he has also lost interest. The emotional side disappeared, he was passionate about yoga, diet, and his body started suffering. Now Djokovic is the same as four years. He came back, now he is the strongest.'
About Khachanov's Rolex Paris Masters success, Tarpischev added: 'Out of our young players, Karen is the first that shaped himself the most on all the aspects, especially physically. He played in an amazing way for a year and in Paris, he beat top 4 players. That's only the beginning if you want to avoid injuries you have to work correctly. His success will keep growing. With a lot of hard work he can be at the same level as Safin.'
Reflecting on the Djokovic-Khachanov final in Paris, Tarpischev added: 'I thought Federer would have been better for Karen. But Karen beat Djokovic, who had just become the world number one! This is a big emotional boost for Khachanov ahead of the future. For a year he did not lose to anybody but top tens. There is hope. What lacks to him now? Time, because younger players are always inconsistent. You only have to wait and fight.'
