Orlando Luz: 'I have dreamed about playing in Davis Cup at home'

The 20-year-old Orlando Luz has been one of the most promising South American players in the last couple of seasons, winning the doubles Wimbledon title with his good friend Marcelo Zormann and becoming junior number 1 in May 2015. Orlando has reached nine Futures finals so far and he won four titles overall, two in 2018 to enter Top 400 after a slow start of the season. The Brazilian played only three tournaments before April and he had to work hard to bounce back through the rankings, playing an intense schedule during the European spring and summer to regain his form and secure the good starting position for 2019 where he should attack the place in the Top 200 if he stays healthy.

Speaking for the Portuguese site, Orlando has started the story by explaining the biggest move in his early development, moving to Barcelona and starting to work at the BTT Tennis Academy where Joao Sousa trains. The Brazilian Tennis Confederation helped Orlando to move to Europe where he has more chances to play during the entire year and against high-quality rivals. Working with Leonardo Azevedo, Luz has been able to improve his mental and physical shape and he is ready to take his game to a higher level in the upcoming season, targeting success on the Challenger level where he reached the semi-final on debut back in 2015.

Asked about the upcoming changes on the Tour and in Davis Cup, he is still reserved towards the upcoming ITF World Tennis Tour and he doesn't like the Davis Cup revamp as well, speaking about his childhood dream of playing for his country at home in front of the partisan crowd. In the end, Orlando revealed Gustavo Kuerten as his childhood idol, football as the most favorite sport besides tennis and Ana Ivanovic as the most beautiful player on the WTA Tour.
