Petra Kvitova: 'Serious injuries are already a part of the past'

In a recent interview, Petra Kvitova commented on how her 2018 season went. The Czech player sees the glass half full than empty. 'This year is full of very good Memories. After a complicated injury in my hand, I cameback in the top ten and we met a lot of good things in my game that I hope to continue for 2019. Serious injuries are part of the past and I only want to keep forward now', said Kvitova in an interview to sport.cz.
The former world No. 2 reached the Australian Open and Wimbledon first round and US Open third round. 'I spoke about it with my team and it's one of the things I have to improve for 2019. I would not change reaching a Grand Slam quarter-finals for some of the titles won in the first half of the year.'
Kvitova added: 'Last year I played a lot of matches in the first half of the season and I was empty. I was not used to it mentally and physically. I think it was the main reason of my drop in Grand Slams. This year things will change and I have in my mind that I will play fewer tournaments this year, in order to come to the final part of the year in the best possible conditions.'
The 28-year-old also said she took a 14-day rest during the off-season: 'It has been 14 very tough days. Much worse than the previous year. I ended the season very bad physically and I decided to work since the first minute in order not to make my shape drop. I trained a lot but I also had the time to travel to many places and staying with my family.'
