Richard Gasquet to use Kooyong Classic as last preparation for Aussie Open

French tennis star Richard Gasquet will play at the Kooyong Classic in January, the tournament announced on Twitter.

The 32-year-old is set to make his fifth appearance at the popular Australian exhibition.

Gasuqet, ranked at No. 26 in the world, debuted at the Kooyong event long ago in 2003.

The Frenchman then didn't play in Kooyong for over a decade but made back-to-back appearances at the tournament in 2014 and 2015.

The 32-year-old is set to once again play in back-to-back years in Kooyong, having played at the tournament this past January.

Former world No. 7 Gasquet holds a notable 8-1 record in Kooyong.

The Frenchman's lone loss in Kooyong came in his debut appearance in 2003 -- when he lost to former world No. 1 Andre Agassi.

However, one of those eight wins came after a player retirement.

Gasquet's biggest win on the hard-courts of Kooyong came this past January -- when he beat 17-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.

Meanwhile, doubles star duo Henri Kontinen and John Peers have been also confirmed for the Kooyong Classic.

Gasquet, as well as Kontinen and Peers, join a star-studded 2019 Kooyong player field which includes 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, two-time Grand Slam runner-up Kevin Anderson and former world No. 17 Bernard Tomic.

The Kooyong Classic is due to be held from 08-10 January.
