Rising star Jason Kubler receives wildcards into Brisbane, Australian Open

Australian rising star Jason Kubler will be opening his 2019 campaign at the Brisbane International.

The 25-year-old has been granted a wildcard into the Brisbane International and the Australian Open.

The Australian is set for a Brisbane debut as he has no previous appearances in the main draw of the tournament.

Kubler, ranked at No. 114 in the world, tried to make the Brisbane main draw in 2010 -- but failed to make it past the qualifying event.

Back then, the 25-year-old lost to fellow compatriot Matt Reid in the Brisbane qualifying first round.

Kubler not making his Brisbane debut earlier isn't a surprise as the Australian played just four non-clay tournaments between 2010 September and 2017 October.

The Australian was having major issues with his knees early on in his career -- which led to him skipping hard and grass events.

However, a-now-healthy Kubler is playing tennis on all surfaces.

On the other side, Kubler is set to make his third appearance at Melbourne Park.

The Australian debuted at the Australian Open in 2010 -- when he lost to Ivan Ljubicic in the first round.

The 25-year-old made his second Australian Open appearance this past January when he lost to Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round.

"The opportunity to play at the Aussie Open is amazing and again, something I am really appreciative for," Kubler said, per AAP.

Kubler, who started the 2018 season ranked at No. 341 in the world, achieved his career-high ranking of No. 91 in October.

The Australian will be motivated to continue his rise in 2019 after a breakthrough 2018 campaign.
