Thiago Monteiro reflects on 2018 campaign and reveals goals for 2019 season

Brazilian tennis star Thiago Monteiro hopes to be a more consistent player in 2019.

The 24-year-old reached his maiden ATP semi-final in Quito in February before he lost to eventual runner-up Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

The Brazilian made the quarter-final at the ATP 500 event in Hamburg as a qualifier in July.

After a good Hamburg campaign, Monteiro disappointingly spent the rest of the season on the Challenger Tour as he didn't qualify for another ATP event.

Per Site Tenis News, Monteiro said that "it was a year of ups and downs."    However, Monteiro isn't discouraged as he has revealed his goals for the 2019 season.

Monteiro, ranked at No. 123 in the world, is in Buenos Aires -- where he is preparing for the upcoming season.

"I want to play again in the main draw of a Grand Slam. I would also like to win a Challenger again and return to the top 100," Monteiro said.

Monteiro will start his season 2019 campaign in Pune -- where he reached the round-of-16 as a qualifier in January.

The Brazilian will then try to make the Australian Open main draw through the qualifying event.

The 24-year-old's last Challenger title came in Aix-en-Provence in 2016.

Monteiro hasn't played in the main draw of a Grand Slam event since the 2017 US Open.

Monteiro, who achieved his career-high ranking of No. 74 in the world in January 2017, hasn't been ranked inside the top-100 since July 2017.
