Roger Federer and David Ferrer set free open practice session in Perth
The 31st edition of the Hopman Cup will kick off on Saturday and the biggest stars have arrived in Perth, preparing for what should be the last edition of this unique team competition. Roger Federer gas landed on Thursday morning, having a chance to visit the Nambung National Park and the famous Pinnacles for the first time and enjoying a day off before hitting the practice court on Friday at 6:00 pm, giving the fans the opportunity to see him against David Ferrer in the free open practice session at the RAC Arena. Federer is the defending champion at Hopman Cup, winning the title last January with Belinda Bencic and he will make his fifth appearance in Perth, winning the title in 2001 and competing again in the following year with his future wife Mirka Vavrinec.
After the 15-year break, Federer landed in Perth again in 2017, failing to reach the final with Belinda Bencic before going all the way this year when they scored commanding wins over Russia, Japan and the USA to reach the final where they overpowered Germany to win the first title in 16 years. The 36-year-old David Ferrer will play at Hopman Cup for the first and only time, retiring in May at Madrid Open after a great career that lasted for almost 20 years. Roger and David played 17 times on the Tour between 2003-2017 and the Swiss claimed all 17 wins, losing just six sets against Ferrer despite some tight encounters. David won more than 700 ATP matches and 27 titles from 52 ATP finals, winning one Masters 1000 crown and cometing in the title match at Roland Garros in 2013.
