Serena Williams: Having Venus around definitely makes it easier sometimes

Serena Williams spoke about the importance of playing in the same era as her sister Venus. Over the years they have inspired and helped each other to improve as players and persons. 'Having Venus around definitely makes it easier sometimes,' Serena said. 'If you lose, it's always nice to have a sister that's been through the same experience kind of, can really only understand what you're going through.'

Serena also added: 'What I've learned is that she's the ultimate‑‑ like, I don't know. I don't even know how she can do what she does and still runs her business and still play, and play pretty darn good tennis and still be so positive. What I've learned for the most part is whatever I'm going through, I can learn from her and always to stay positive and stay upbeat.'

If she was in charge of the whole sport and could change any rule about play, enact a new rule, what is the one thing would she like to do? 'Well, I think I love tennis the way it is. I think it's a great game. As for changing the rules, yeah, I don't know. It would be something more technical. Nothing that I can think of in terms of tennis play.'

Serena will start her new season at the Hopman Cup in Perth, Venus at the ASB Classic in Auckland. Before that, both sisters will play the Mubadala Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.
