Serena Williams is back: Will she be able to equal Margaret Smith's record?
Serena Williams was able to play a Slam final 314 days after having given birth, at Wimbledon.
Serena is not only a champion, but is perhaps closer to be called a Wonder Woman: it is not easy to carry on a family and be a mother while, at the same time, you have to train and play such important matches. It may happen that you do not see your daughter for days.
Here comes out the steel mind of Serena who, with determination and willpower, is able to do everything. Or, almost everything. But, there is a lot waiting to happen in 2019 with Margaret Court's record still standing. In 2019, starting from the Australian Open, Serena will have the opportunity to equal and better the record.
Williams should theoretically arrive in Australia with a very different and much more solid physical form. Could age be a problem for her? Probably not. This year she defeated much younger and fitter opponents. Although it is unknown until when she will continue to play, there is no doubt, beyond all dramas like at the 2018 US Open final, seeing Serena Williams on the court is a stimulus for all her colleagues to improve so that they could defeat her.
