What was 2018's most exciting Slam?
Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open; What was 2018's most exciting Slam? We had different winners, and first-time Major champions among women.
AUSTRALIAN OPEN
The Australian tournament generated many emotions. Roger Federer showed an incredible level of play, winning the final against Marin Cilic at the fifth set. In an epic final, Caroline Wozniacki won her first Major by defeating Halep, in what was one of the best women's matches of the year. The good overall level of play has helped make the Australian Open one of the best tournaments of this season.
FRENCH OPEN
In the men's singles, a bit of pathos was missed. The final between Nadal and Dominic Thiem was a Spanish monologue. Halep's tears, after winning her first Grand Slam at the end of a very emotional match against Sloane Stephens, made the fans shout: "Finally!". Yet, from a structural standpoint, Roland Garros was still a step backwards.
WIMBLEDON
The return to victory of Novak Djokovic and the third Major of Angelique Kerber, who defeated Serena Williams, avenging the defeat of 2016. Without forgetting the quarterfinals between Federer and Kevin Anderson, the epic match between Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro, the longest semi-final of the Championships, won by Anderson against John Isner 26-24 in the fifth set. And finally the exciting semi-final between Djokovic and Nadal.
US OPEN
Still Serena Williams in the final, defeated by the young Japanese star Naomi Osaka. In the men's singles, Djokovic confirmed himself as the man to beat. His victory in the final against an emotional Juan Martin del Potro was the definitive tallow of the rebirth of the Serb champion.
