2019 has already rejuvenated Tomas Berdych, but against the Big Four...

Tomas Berdych returned to competitive tennis after six months, and after overcoming a series of physical problems and injuries that partly limited the last two years of his career. But the Czech, at the first official appointment of the year, seems to have found a great athletic and psychological condition.

He reached an ATP final after almost two years, in Doha, Qatar beating opponents such as Philipp Kohlschreiber, Fernando Verdasco, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Marco Cecchinato. In the final, he lost against Roberto Bautista Agut, who had also had an impressive road in the tournament just like him

It was a great return on the stage of tennis as Berdych, one the most consistent players of the last ten years returned with renewed motivation and rejuvenated athleticism.

We must not forget that, on fast surfaces, he has always performed well in the Majors in the last three years. At the Australian Open, Berdych played a good tournament. He reached the fourth round, where he played and lost against Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard gave a hard tennis lesson to the Czech; Berdych played a very good tournament, but as always, he suffered against a Big Three player.

One result, however, does not eliminate faith that Berdych could make his way back into the top-10 where he has long belonged and pose a threat to the top players. What happens next in 2019, we shall soon see in the weeks and months to follow.
