Alexander Zverev can make a step forward in Majors, says BMW Open chief

Alexander Zverev recently announced that he will come back to the BMW Open that takes place in Munich in late April 2019. The 21-year-old won 2017 and 2018 titles there and he looks forward to competing in front of his fans. In an exclusive interview with Tennis World USA, the Tournament Director Patrik Kuhnen commented on Zverev's appearance and his potential for the long term. 'We are very happy that he is coming back this year and going for his third attempt to win the tournament. He has helped our tournament a lot because of the value he brings overall. He won the ATP Finals, proving he can make a step forward in Majors. He is very young and he is already world No. 4 and he is the next German superstar, or he is already the superstar', said Kuhnen.

On how Angelique Kerber and Zverev are helping Germany to increase its popularity for tennis, Kuhnen added: 'The numbers show that the interest in tennis is growing especially with Angelique Kerber's Wimbledon Championship. The overall development of Sascha Zverev has also been followed by many people in the last two years.'

Kuhnen also believes that playing Munich can help Zverev again to perform well in the following tournaments: 'The last two years he has won Munich and he has played tremendously well in the weeks after Munich. In the overall clay-court season approach, playing Munich has been a boost for him ahead of Madrid and Rome. The transition from Munich to Madrid has been very easy. You can also fly from here to there over a short time.'
