Alexander Zverev needs to overcome Grand Slam challenges, says expert

In an interview to Tages Spiegel, the Eurosport commentator Matthias Stach commented on Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev's Australian Open chances. The world No. 2 female player already won in Melbourne in 2016 defeating Serena Williams in a straight-set final, while Zverev won the ATP Finals in London just two weeks ago. 'For both, it's unbelievably important how they start in Australia', said Stach. 'I think Kerber feels very comfortable with her coach Rainer Schuttler. I hope it may pay off ahead of the French Open. Because she can play on clay and get the only Grand Slam title missing, it would be a dream.'
Stach added: 'For Sascha, it's about overcoming the Grand Slam challenges. He works hard and I trust him for everything. He is still young, he needs to develop himself. And he already did it. Just think about the speech in London after winning the ATP Finals. No one would have expected it.'
Asked what he expects from the Australian Open, Stach replied: 'Everything is incredibly exciting again this year. Again and again, even if you think you went through everything. Even if it will probably be my Grand Slam tournament No. 102, you never saw everything. And that's why I get emotional like 20 years ago.'
Zverev defeated Aljaz Bedene in straight sets on Tuesday and he will face the Frenchman Jeremy Chardy on Thursday.
