Coach Marian Vajda is like a father for Novak Djokovic, says Mats Wilander

In an interview to Sport.sk the seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander commented on Marian Vajda's influence on Novak Djokovic. They won 14 Grand Slam titles together, they started working together in 2006 and, after splitting in 2017, they came back on the road in 2018 conquering Wimbledon and US Open crowns. 'Marian is the most important person in Novak's tennis life', said Wilander. 'He was the coach of the year. Let me say that he is more than a coach. For Novak he is a friend, brother, father and coach. No one knows more. We do not know the informations in the behind the scenes and we do not see their secrets, but Vajda's influence on Novak looks clear. Marian admires that he allowed Boris Becker, who is a great personality, to help him have success. Now after Marian's return, it works again without Becker as well so Vajda's influence is the key. His relationship with Novak is long, close and unbreakable. I expected him to call him again when he left. Marian made Novak fulfil his potential, from the 22nd place to the first. They will work together for still a long time.'

Ivan Lendl, Michael Chang, Andre Agassi, Goran Ivanisevic and many other legends became tennis coaches. Couldn't Mats Wilander join the group? 'I am not interested', Wilander told sport.ck. 'Only if Bjorn Borg offered me. If he came back and he wanted me, I would like to be his coach.'
