'I thought Nadal would beat Novak Djokovic at 2018 Wimbledon' - Ivanisevic
In an interview to Sport Klub, the 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic commented on the rivalry between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Serb now leads the head to head meetings 28-25 after winning the Australian Open final in straight sets. 'All their matches reached the limit of their resistance. We saw an unbelievable match at Wimbledon which I thought Nadal would win, but in the end, Nole did it', said Ivanisevic.
On the two players' games, the Croat added: 'Nadal improved his serve, obviously, and it was something on which Nole always got points. They both were moving unbelievably, maybe Nole a little bitter, he is hitting the ball like if he is playing on Nintendo DS.'
On how they evolved their games Ivanisevic, who is coaching Milos Raonic, said: 'Nadal got more aggressive - look at Tsitsipas, he knew he had to head into the court and it's impressive how he adapts to everything. Novak and he showed who they were they, they told younger players: "Guys, stay there for another year - you are good, but not ready yet. Wait a little bit, we are still the kings and we still rule". They are still very good.'
Ivanisevic was also asked what's the right way to focus before such an important match: 'You do not have to think about the importance of the finals, you just have to enjoy every moment - the nightmare, the entire world, the big rival...'
