Serena Williams is the greatest player ever, says Rod Laver
Rod Laver believes that Serena Williams is the greatest player he has ever seen playing. In Q&A session on Twitter, the Australian legend wrote: 'There have been other good players, but Serena is top of the class in how she plays matches. She has the best serve in the game and she plays her matches extremely well.'
On Stefanos Tsitsipas's potential, Laver added: 'I've watched him and I know he's the new kid on the bloke. He's got a great game, he plays a tough all court game. I would say he's going to be in the top 10 in 2 years. It all depends on his fitness. He has all the makings of a champion.'
Then he also gave a suggestion: 'If you are playing some of the top guys you have to be fit enough and not panic when you are playing them.'
His favorite matches in career? 'I don't know if any are favourites. Playing Ken Rosewall was a challenge, we had some great matches. The WTC finals in Dallas were the best matches we played and playing in the French championships. He beat me in 68 and I won in 69, but we were always close.'
Laver also said he believed that Naomi Osaka was the women's singles favorite: 'She's very talented and competes hard.' Osaka defeated Petra Kvitova in the women's singles final on Saturday to win her second Major. After her win, she also became the world no. 1
His favorite Australian Open memory: 'My favourite is being down here and seeing all the changes that Melbourne has accomplished in the last 10 years. I watch.'
