I wasn't thinking about acing Roger Federer, says Serena Williams
For Serena Williams, hitting an ace on her serve games when Roger Federer was returning was not the priority in their mixed-doubles match at the Hopman Cup in Perth on Tuesday. The American player said: 'I wasn't thinking about acing Roger today, I was thinking about just making my first serve and not making too many mistakes. Obviously that would have been a bonus but it was more or less about trying to win the match.'
On the on-court selfie she took with Federer after the match, Williams added: 'It was cool. I wanted to take a selfie with the rackets and then I left my racket and he had already left but I got a bonus racket so don't be surprised if I show up in Australia playing with a black Wilson.'
Explaining why this match against Federer will be unforgettable for the rest of her life, Williams said: 'What I remember the most about it is that we both are at the pinnacles of our careers, both still playing some of our best tennis and that's so special to be competing against each other, which is just not men and women compete against each other so it's really great and special to go against the greatest of all time.'
About a niggle in her right shoulder that was bothering her in her singles matches, Serena added: 'It was such a quick turnaround [from the singles]. Not enough time to reload the cannon, so to say. It's totally normal, just got to rub it out.'
