I would like to see Serena Williams winning again, says Nicolas Kiefer

In an interview to NDR, the 41-year-old Nicolas Kiefer commented on the Australian Open women's singles draw. Kiefer said: 'I would like to see Serena Williams winning again. Obviously, also Angelique Kerber belongs to the favourites group, she also has a good coach, my Olympic teammate Rainer Schuttler', Kiefer laughed. 'I think Kerber's main goal is the French Open in 2019, having won all the other Majors.'

Kiefer also praised the six-time Major winner Boris Becker's role as the head of men's German tennis: 'I attended a session when he was working based in Hannover. Boris still lives tennis. The only question is: does the very young generation still know Boris Becker? A better role model than Boris Becker doesn't exist. At the end of the day, it's important to achieve improvements and that he helps to bring the German tennis at the highest.'

On how Kerber and Alexander Zverev's successes helped Germany, Kiefer added: 'Tennis earned amazing attention in Germany again. Kerber won Wimbledon and she became the athlete of the year, Zverev ended the year as the ATP Finals champion - that's a challenge to the competition for 2019.'
