John Peers and Henri Kontinen expect 'really tough' AO men's doubles final

Australian doubles specialist John Peers insists he and Finn Henri Kontinen are preparing themselves for a tough Australian Open men's doubles clash.

No. 12 seeds Peers and Kontinen are set to meet France's Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in the Australian Open doubles final.

Peers, 30, and 28-year-old Kontinen saw off Argentina's Leonardo Mayer and Portuguese Joao Sousa 6-1 7-6 (6) in the semi-final at Melbourne Park.

On the other side, the fifth-seeded Frenchmen defeated USA's Ryan Harrison and Sam Querrey 6-4 6-2 to progress to the final.

Peers and Kontinen won their maiden Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park two years ago.

Herbert and Mahut fell just short of winning it all at Melbourne Park four years ago as they runners-up to Italy's Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini in the 2015 Australian Open final.

The Frenchmen need only an Australian Open title to complete a Career Grand Slam.

"It's gonna be a tough match; we know those guys," Peers said of Herbert and Mahut, per the AAP and Tennis Australia.

"I think they're going for the career slam as well. And so we know it's gonna be a really tough match. They’re gonna play big and can win matches on their own terms.

"It's gonna be about us seeing what we can do and focus on our level and bring what we can on that day and see if its good enough.

"It's always great to play in front of the home crowd and get the support."

Kontinen and Peers haven't dropped a set in five matches played on their way to reaching the final.
