French tennis star Lucas Pouille has been awarded a wildcard into the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco, the tournament announced.

Year in and year out, the ATP 500 event in Acapulco gathers a strong player field.

This year won't be an exception as the tournament is preparing for another star-studded player field.

The Acapulco tournament organizers have done a great job of securing Pouille's services -- who will be surely be one of the main attractions at the event following his great Australian Open run.

The Frenchman made his maiden Grand Slam semi-final at Melbourne Park before he was beaten by world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

"The presence of Lucas Pouille, a player with a lot of talent that earned him, a few years ago the award as the player with the most improvement in the circuit [2016], will strengthen the picture we will present this year," Acapulco Tournament Director Raul Zurutuza said.

"Throughout this week in Australia, Lucas has shown that his tennis is at the height of the largest and it will be a luxury to have it for the first time in Acapulco."

Pouille is expected to be joined in Acapulco by some of the biggest names of the game as Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Kevin Anderson, Stan Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov, John Isner and Nick Kyrgios have all been confirmed for the event.
