Novak Djokovic started from scratch last year, says coach Marian Vajda

In an interview to the Serbian media Novak Djokovic's coach Marian Vajda commented on the Australian Open title won by the Serbian player over Rafael Nadal in a straight-set final. “I’m fine. Emotions were great, we can not give him back as much as he gives us, but our pleasure was great for everything we did for him, not only in the past three weeks, but also in the past," said Vajda. "Everything agreed and created the best possible outcome – Novak won the 15th Grand Slam title, which we could only imagine, the seventh Australian open after everything that happened, the injury and the difficult period. All this is truly remarkable, I almost can not believe what happened."

Vajda and Djokovic split in April 2017 after working together for 11 consecutive years. They cameback on the road in April 2018 and the 31-year-old got to the winning ways again winning Wimbledon, US Open and now the Australian Open. “When we started working together again, it was almost like we were going back all over again. Novak literally started from scratch again," admitted Vajda. "Everyone said that it was only a matter of time when he would return, but it was not so in my opinion. I jumped into the team and we started out from scratch. The truth is that I know Novak for a long time, but there were difficult circumstances that we were facing. Apparently, there is great trust between us and we are close, it’s my advantage because we are family and I can tell him everything. I am not only a coach, authority or whatever, but his friend, which is also very important. GG returned, there was Uli, there was a lot of good energy, because he knows these people and know how they work, we have a lot in common and the same, highly professional approach to everything."
