Paul Annacone: 'I never argued with Roger Federer during our cooperation'
An athlete's life always features ups and down, happy and bad moments, joyful and tense clashes. Roger Federer makes no exception, but when he is angry, he does not put his frustration on his camp. Paul Annacone coached the Swiss from the end of 2010 to end of 2013, and, speaking to Tennis World USA, he said he never argued with Federer or his team members. Annacone worked closely with Severin Luthi, who has also been Federer's coach since 2008. 'This is the one thing that is so amazing about his career. He is very able to look at things objectively even when there are a lot of emotions involved', said the 55-year-old American. 'He is very, very easy to work with. I have no memories of angry conversations, and I was able to communicate with his team on any level. I had nothing to worry about. This is what makes a team very good.'
Annacone also revealed what's his greatest off-court memory with Federer. He picked the 2011 Wimbledon loss against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. In that match, the Swiss was leading two sets to love and would eventually lose in five. Recalling what happened just two hours after the loss, Annacone said: 'We were talking in the evening and I was amazed at his perspective, his ability to face difficulties. He said: "I was very close but it went that way. But I know I am gonna win more matches like this". In that moment of disappointment, he was still able to understand the big picture, having a good balance, even though he had won a lot of matches like that one.'
