Roger Federer scored the worst break point conversation ever

Roger Federer's performances in the last four Grand Slams have not been great. The Swiss player has not reached the semifinals in any of them, which marks the longest drought since 2003 Wimbledon when he reached his first Major semifinal, final and title. At 2019 Australian Open and 2018 US Open he lost both times in the fourth round to Stefanos Tsitsipas and John Millman, in 2018 Wimbledon he lost to Kevin Anderson in the Wimbledon quarter-finals while at the French Open he did not play.

Against Tsitispas, Federer did not convert 12 break points on 12, which is his worst break points conversion ever. 0/9 against Andy Murray at 2012 London Olympics is now the second on the list along with 2001 US Open to Andre Agassi, then 0/8 against Robin Soderling in 2006 Madrid, 0/7 against Stefan Koubek in 2001 Vienna, 0/7 against Jurgen Melzer at 2011 Monte Carlo.

Federer's loss means that three of the four players who stayed alive in the top half - Roberto Bautista Agut, Tsitsipas and Frances Tiafoe - will play their first career Grand Slam quarter-final on Tuesday. Rafael Nadal will instead play his 36th. Tsitsipas is also the youngest Grand Slam quarterfinalist since the 19-year and three-month-old Nick Kyrgios at the 2015 Australian Open. The Australian lost to Andy Murray at the time.

Federer will have time to reflect on his loss. The 37-year-old is soon going to be back to Switzerland to enjoy some skiing with his wife Mirka and their four children.
