Serena Williams effect: coaching may be allowed soon in Aus Open, US Open

Speaking on ESPN, the journalist Jon Wertheim revealed that the Australian Open and US Open could introduce the on-court coaching in 2020. Wertheim talked with a Tennis Australia member in recent times. 'Remember, the majors have a certain amount of latitude when it comes to setting policy', he added. 'We saw this year they changed the decisive tie-break in the matches and next year we know US Open has wanted on-court coaching. Australian Open now says they are going to confer with the players. I was told by 2020 don’t be surprised if two of the four majors have mid-match on-court coaching."

At last year's US Open Serena Williams got punished after getting coached by Patrick Mouratoglou. Coaching is not allowed in the Grand Slams.

Meanwhile Lindsay Davenport commented on WTA trying to take actions after every ATP move: 'As a former WTA player, it just seems like the WTA is constantly reacting to what is happening with the men. We saw that with the Davis Cup. There was no real plan by the ITF for the Fed Cup. And now with this, it seems like because this is what the men are doing, let’s figure out what the women are doing. I would love to see strong plans in place for the women. The women players right now don’t know what their tournament options are going to be next January. That doesn’t seem right to me. I would love to see the big announcement for the women, as well as the men, at the same time.”
