Alex de Minaur after first Davis Cup win: It is a dream come true

Rising Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur says getting a Davis Cup win was a "dream come true" for him after beating Bosnian Mirza Basic 6-3 7-6 (0) to give his side a 2-0 lead over Bosnia and Herzegovina in their qualifying round tie.

The 19-year-old's maiden Davis Cup came in his fourth attempt as previously he was beaten by German Alexander Zverev and Austria's Dominic Thiem and Dennis Novak.

Meanwhile, 2018 US Open sensation John Millman didn't disappoint the local fans at Memorial Drive in Adelaide as he made an easy job of three-time ATP champion Damir Dzumhur 6-3 6-2 in the opening rubber of their tie against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"This is a dream come true for me and I'm so happy I was finally able to get a win for my country in Davis Cup," de Minaur said post-match, per the AP and Tennis Australia.

"I think it's amazing that we had Johnny Millman come out here and get his win as well, opening it up perfectly and giving me lots of confidence. I'm really happy with the position we're in."

Millman, 29, who made his Davis Cup debut in 2017, absolutely loves representing his country.

"There's nothing quite like playing for your country. It's special," Millman said after beating Dzumhur, per Tennis Australia Twitter.

During the Australian Open, Bernard Tomic openly spoke against Australian Davis Cup Team Captain Lleyton Hewitt and suggested there's also a rift between Hewitt and two rising stars, Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

"It's no secret that Lletyon wants to create a real culture where Davis Cup is one of the benchmarks of the year," Millman said.

"The opportunity to represent your country, as it was back in the old days, is something that we don’t take for granted. I'm all for that. It always should be like that."
