Caujolle on young players:'Will they be as professional as Federer, Nadal?'
The Marseille Open Tournament Director Jean-Francois Caujolle commented on the future of men's tennis between the Next Generation and the older players. In an interview to Yahoo, Caujolle showed to be doubtful: "When I see the professionalism, determination of (Roger) Federer, (Rafael) Nadal or (Novak) Djokovic, even of a (Marin) Cilic or (Juan Martin) del Potro, the suffering they went through, I ask myself how will the young guys react to that? On the way to the top, there are ways. Kyrgios didn't overcome the first stage of suffering or professionalism. Coric has the highest degree of professionalism."
Analyzing this week's Open 13 field, Caujolle added: "I am like Thomas Tuchel when he learned that he would have not had Neymar and Cavani to face the Manchester United. He said: "It doesn't matter, we will play" and he showed that his team was very strong even without its two top protagonists. We, our two protagonists, Murray e Karen Khachanov, are missing, but there is a great draw. There isn't any top ten player and we have just two top 20 guys, which never happened in the tournament history. There is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's case, who is a real top 10, or (David) Goffin, a former top 10 player, or Gael Monfils, an alien, who I put in a different category of tennis players. Having Gael in a draw is a pure pleasure for me. I am also one of the organizers who is like this because with Gael we can expect the best and the worst. Bu the worst is never sure and if it happens, we are prepared. It will be a fun week. Sometimes I had stronger draws in terms of names or rankings. But they did not necessarily entertain me too much."
