Cracking top 10, winning maiden title: Denis Shapovalov sets 2019 goals
In a recent interview, Denis Shapovalov commented on his goals for the season. Winning his first career-title and cracking the top ten rankings are his main goal for the short and long term. "Winning an ATP title is my main priority. It's something that my team and I have been working very hard on to achieve and I think that I can make it if I play very well. This is my main goal. I work all day, trying to improve and I hope that now after two seasons I can compete in the Majors with the top guys."
He added: "For my game, I think I have the potential to be a top ten player. I believe in myself and I think that I am able to go there, even this year, but I do not have to be in a rush and just follow my own rhythm. At the end of the day, I just want to enjoy. This is a fun journey. It took me a lot to come here but I have many years ahead of me and I only want to enjoy my time here."
Shapovalov concluded: "It's great to see the younger guys doing well. In particular, Tiafoe, who is a very good friend of mine. He has a big heart and a good personality. I sent him messages after every match, trying to support him in order that he would do well. Seeing him doing well motivates me as well. I defeated them and so I can do it."
