Felix Auger-Aliassime: I don't put myself limits, I'm aiming for stars
Rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime was in great spirits following his Rio Open round-of-16 win.
The 18-year-old handed a straight-set defeat to Chile's Christian Garin 7-5 6-4 to reach the quarter-final in Rio de Janeiro.
Garin twice came from a break down during the first set but Auger-Aliassime kept his focus as he claimed his third break in the 12th game to seal the opener.
The Chilean appeared to have recovered from losing a tight first set as he opened up a quick 2-0 second-set lead.
However, world No. 91 Garin's lead was short-lived as the Canadian quickly turned the things around to record a straight-set win.
Previously, world No. 104 Auger-Aliassime beat world No. 16 clay-court expert Fabio Fognini 6-2 6-3 in the Rio Open first round.
Auger-Aliassime plays next against fellow rising star Jaime Munar.
The Canadian is set to debut in the top-100 next Monday.
"It's another great step towards my final goal, I'm aiming for the stars, I don't put myself any limits so I think it's another step in my young career and my progress," Auger-Aliassime said following his win over Garin, per Rio Open Twitter.
Auger-Aliassime pulled off a Brazilian national team shirt after beating Garin.
The Canadian is playing on the clay-courts of Rio de Janeiro for the first time in his career.
"The country has welcomed me really well and I've been treated really well since I came here. For us players it helps to play well and makes us feel at home," Auger-Aliassime claimed.
