The world no. 4 Juan Martin del Potro is back in action for the first time since October and a nasty knee injury he suffered in Shanghai, defeating Yoshihito Nishioka in the opening round of Delray Beach (read the match report HERE). After beating Richard Gasquet in the second round of Shanghai, the Argentinian fell against Borna Coric in the following match, injuring the right knee and being forced to skip Basel, Paris Masters and the ATP Finals. 2009 US Open champion had a great 2018 season, scoring 47 ATP wins and conquering two ATP titles, lifting his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells and reaching the semi-final at Roland Garros, the quarter-final at Wimbledon and the final at the US Open to finish in the top-5 for the first time since 2013.

The organizers have announced the big name and one of the title favorites in the perfect moment, losing Lucas Pouille and the last year's finalist Kevin Anderson who have both decided to withdraw. The Abierto Mexicano Telcel will host Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and John Isner, welcoming del Potro to make the draw even more thrilling and giving the crowd the opportunity to enjoy in one of their favorite players.

In 2017, Juan Martin lost to Novak Djokovic in the second round after a great fight (recall the encounter HERE) and he went all the way a year ago, beating Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Kevin Anderson in back-to-back days to lift the biggest title since 2013 (take a look at the final match report HERE).
