For Serena Williams maternity was an enormous change, says coach
Serena Williams has not won a Grand Slam title yet since returning to competition post-maternity and some people, both former players and media, are questioning whether the American will win a Major title again and catch Margaret Court's 24 Grand Slam crowns record. Asked by We Love Tennis, if he was bothered by the question marks around Serena, Mouratoglou replied: "Not at all. I can understand it because she did not win any of the last four Majors played and many players showed big abilities. The bet is an intriguing one. It's not easy to get back at 37 years after a one-year break and after giving birth to a child. It's an enormous change both mentally and physically. I remember that she started training again only ten months ago. We cannot buy the time. You have to be patient. In tennis, everything is possible, especially with champions like Serena."
Mouratoglou also backed the French training method to improve: "Without a doubt, the French training for the tennis coaches is the most complete in the world and allows you to "export". I think, however, that two sectors miss and they should be included in the training: speaking English fluently, which is essential for an International career, and this is often an obstacle for us as French people...
