John Millman: I don’t think there’s added pressure

Australian John Millman says he feels a sense of responsibility, but definitely not pressure, when he plays the opening singles match of Australia’s Davis Cup tie against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ranked No.36 on the ATP Charts, he is set to play Bosnia’s top player and world No.52 Damir Dzumhur in the Opening Tie. Australia’s No.1 Alex De Minaur will face off against Mirza Basic in the second singles match.

John Peers and Jordan Thompson are set to play the Doubles Rubber against Tomislav Brkic and Mirza Basic.

“I don’t think there’s added pressure,” Millman told reporters. “I think as the number two player, playing against their top player, I think probably there’s a little more pressure on him – that one could be really crucial for them to get off to a good start.”

“I have definitely identified it as a really big opportunity to send that message that we’re Australians and we’re playing in our home country and we’re here to play.”

“So I’m looking forward to getting things up and rolling and I see it as a responsibility for myself to steer the ship in the right direction.”

Lleyton Hewitt recently spoke about the changes and slammed Gerrard Pique for the change in format. “The two biggest points of difference were, one, the home and away aspect of it and, secondly, (it) was the best of five sets. If you look at the pinnacle of our sport, which are the fourt majors, they’re best of 5 sets."
