Radu Albot reflects on his surprise win over Nick Kyrgios

Moldova's Radu Albot felt very happy after picking up a surprise win over rising Australian star Nick Kyrgios on Thursday.

Albot, ranked at No. 82 in the world, beat four-time ATP champion Kyrgios 6-2 3-6 6-3 in the Delray Beach Open round-of-16.

Albot, 29, broke the Australian in the third and fifth game of the first set to easily claim the opener.

Albot paid the price for not converting any of his three break points during the fifth game of the second set as Kyrgios broke the 29-year-old a couple of games later to force a decider.

However, Albot kept his focus as he broke the Australian in the fourth game of the third set and then held on to his serve to claim a big win.

"It' a very good win. He's for sure one of the best servers in the world. He plays some crazy shots, great serve. You just have to be ready. Great win. I'm very happy," Albot said post-match, per the tournament website.

The head-to-head between the two now stands at 1-1.

Albot fought hard during the first meeting between the two but still fell short against Kyrgios in the first round of last year's US Open 7-5 2-6 6-4 6-2.

"At the US Open, I  was leading in the first set and I lost that set, so it was a little bit maybe a missed opportunity. Today I managed to break him twice (in the first set)," Albot acknowledged.

Albot will fight against American Steve Johnson for a place in the semi-final.
