Roger Federer's agent reveals the real reason behind Laver Cup in Geneva
Speaking to reporters earlier this month during the launch of the third Laver Cup edition in Geneva, Roger Federer's agent Tony Godsick commented on several topics including why they choose the Swiss city to host the tournament. "The facility at the Palexpo is good, with Rolex that is one of our main partners in Ginevra and, last but not least important, Roger is happy to be able to play there. We do not know how much time left he is playing", said Godsick on Federer. "Honestly. I think that Roger himself does not exactly know how much time he will go forward. But as soon as he retires, my job really starts", he said referring to the many business projects they could be a part of."
For Federer, playing the Laver Cup in Geneva is a surprise: "I would have not expected it. When we had the idea about the format, in the beginning, we thought of using the Grand Slam sites, that use the place just for three weeks a year. Switzerland was not a problem at all. Then it came to Prague, Chicago. And now, coming back to Europe this year, Geneva suddenly applied. I said straight forward: let's do it absolutely."
How big is Federer's influence on it? "I give my help, I say what I think. But I am not in the organization. I am a player and I focus on it."
Federer is travelling to Dubai to continue his preparation for the ATP 500 tournament that takes place on outdoor hard courts next week
