2018 semi-finalist Pablo Carreno Busta withdraws from Miami Open

Spanish tennis star Pablo Carreno Busta and Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka have withdrawn from the Miami Open.

Carreno Busta, ranked at No. 20 in the world, hasn't played since the Cordoba Open.

Back then, the Spaniard was forced to retire his Cordoba round-of-16 match after picking up a shoulder injury.

The 27-year-old Spaniard won't be making his sixth consecutive appearance at the Miami Masters.

Carreno Busta is due to drop a good amount of points following the conclusion of Miami.

The Spaniard's career-best result at the Miami event came last year, when he made the semi-final.

On the other side, world No. 74 Nishioka won't be making his fourth consecutive Miami main draw appearance.

Nishioka was forced to retire his BNP Paribas Open round-of-16 clash to Miomir Kecmanovic on Wednesday after struggling with what appeared to be a terrible back pain.

The 23-year-old's best Miami result came in 2016, when he made the third round in his debut appearance.

Former world No. 10 Ernests Gulbis and Italian Thomas Fabbiano are expected to replace Carreno Busta and Nishioka in the Miami main draw.

Gulbis, 30, is set to make his eighth Miami main draw appearance as he will be hoping to finally achieve a good result at the tournament.

In his previous seven Miami appearances, the Latvian four times lost in the second round and three times in the first round respectively.

On the other side, 29-year-old Fabbiano is set to make his second appearance in Miami.

The Italian debuted at the tournament last year, when he suffered a first-round defeat against Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The Miami Open has been scheduled to take place from March 20-31.
